CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga
-- The Kalinga State University (KSU) is producing ‘aloemon’ hand sanitizer, a
natural formulation from aloe vera and lemon.
KSU President
Eduardo T. Bagtang said the aloemon is the latest research product of KSU’s
Extension and Research Department for its COVID-19 initiatives.
The ‘aloemon’
from the extract of aloevera and lemon fruit which are locally available is an
effective disinfectant. The KSU buys the raw materials come from local farmers
to financially help them this time of the community quarantine.
Bagtang said
the initial produce of aloemon hand sanitizer were distributed to frontliners,
health workers and KSU employees
For its other
COVID-19 initiatives, KSU is now producing ethanol alcohol, calamansi soap and
calamansi cookies while the Home Economics Department has produced facemasks.
Bagtang said
seeing the need for these items this time of the pandemic, KSU is considering
opening a longer-term income generating project.
To assure
sustainability of the project, KSU’s Agriculture Department may include as
program the production of needed raw materials to augment the supply from
farmers, Bagtang said. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
