DOH reveals 641 Covid-19 related deaths in Cordillera

BAGUIO
CITY – Cordillera regional health authorities said most deaths caused by
Covid-19 had been reported in March and April this year with the highest peak
from March 28 to April 3.
In her message during the KasamasaPamana regional pre-State of the Nation Address (SONA) series at Baguio Convention Center recently, DOH-CAR assistant regional director Dr. Amelita M. Pangilinan said as of May 30, there were 376 males who died of the virus that represent 59 percent of the 641 Covid-related deaths.
Age range of those who died was two to 100 years old with median of 66 years.
She said based on e available data, the older a Covid patient is, the greater the risk of death.
Pangilinan said there were 374 deaths or 58 percent of the total recorded deaths with indicated co-morbidities such as hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.
She said there was delay in seeking consultation and low or poor health-seeking behavior of the community as evidenced by number of deaths – those who die at home, die upon arrival in health facility or emergency room, including short interval these cases have between seeking medical attention and dying.
According to her, it was also observed there was clustering of cases during the previous surge due to non-compliance to minimum health standards like crowding and lack of physical distancing.
Pangilinan said almost all Covid cases were from households or work places and there was increase in asymptomatics turning positive of the virus.

of the virus such as cough and colds, fever, diarrhea, sore throat, among
