Eagles rescued; get Isabela PNP chiefs’ names

ILAGAN CITY, Isabela -- Two critically-endangered Philippine serpent eagles rescued and saved by Isabela police were named after the Philippine National Police regional director and PNP provincial director, their rescuers.
    The two eagles have been turned over safely to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office here in Ilagan Santuary, Sta. Victoria, by Brig. Gen. Crizaldo Nieves, Region 2 PNP director and  Col. James Cipriano, Isabela police director.
    Among those who rescued the two eagles were Maj. Joel Dulin, chief of Provincial Community Affairs Unit; Lt. Col. Eugenio Malillin, chief of Provincial Intelligence Unit and Junee Amor Mejares of CENRO Naguilian.
    After their rescue, the eagles were nursed and fed by cops for few days, with the help of Pablo Cabaccan of Kaligkasan Advocacy Group.
    These were later turned over to Ilagan City CENRO, said Nieves.
    Nieves said the rescue of the two critically-endangered eagles came after a concerned citizen informed police saying the eagles were weak after they were caught along Benito Solivenmountain here.
    The Philippine eagle is “endangered" species and government banned its capture.
