CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee has directed Abra police chief Col. Maly C. Cula to intensify checkpoint operations in the province with the nearing national and local elections on May 9.
“Higpitan n’yo pa ang pagsasagawa ng checkpoint operations. Dagdagan n’yo rin ang pagsasagawa ng mga spot checkpoints,” Lee said.
Commission on Elections resolution 10741 mandated checkpoint must be established to effectively implement the firearms ban during the election period.
Lee told police to be courteous and clearly explain purpose of checkpoints.
“I have already coordinated with Ilocos regional police na hihigpitan din nila checkpoint sa area nila sa Nagbukel, Burgos, and Sta Maria, ” he added.
Currently, each police station in Abra has established at least one checkpoint in their municipality.
Also, spot checkpoints are being regularly conducted in strategic areas within the province.
Lee also instructed the Provincial Highway Patrol Team of Highway Patrol Group and other operating units stationed in Abra to conduct checkpoints in the province.
