Van rams Baguio flyover railing; 2 dead, 4 injured

BAGUIO CITY – Two persons were killed while four others were injured when the van they were riding in fell on its side along the flyover Magsaysay Ave. after hitting a railing here around 1 a.m. April 6.
    Police identified the fatalities as Cherry Lyn Monte Sasa, 25, students of Padang Pongayan, Kapangan, Benguet and Rodel Polano, 18.
    Injured were Fe Serafino Trino, 25, of Itogon town; Dariel Pacalso Soligan, 21,of  Cotcot, Buguias; Jonar Talabing Taukan, 17, of Madaymen Kibungan, and Marson Anhibey Sab-it, 18, of Patugay, Bangao, Buguias, all in Benguet.
Police said the ill-fated Tamaraw FX van was bound to La Trinidad, Benguet when the accident happened.
    The driver lost control of the vehicle while traversing the flyover making it crash onto a railing, then fell on its side.
Dead on the spot was Sasa while Polano died in hospital.
    The injured were rushed to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center and sent home after being treated.
Trino was confined at BGHMC in stable condition at press time.

2 dead in Benguet freak accidents

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Authorities recorded two deaths in separate incidents in the province recently.
In Tuba, a laborer reportedly died after he drowned while swimming at the Gallano River in Nagalisan.
    He was identified as Rhomel Abubo Balcita, a native of Bani, Rosario, La Union and a resident of Sitio Immalog, Barangay Basca in Aringay.
    Reports from the Police Regional Office Cordillera said Balcita and his companions went to swim at the Gallano River afternoon of April 24 when the victim went missing.
    Personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office Tuba and Bureau of Fire Protection Tuba and Tuba     Police immediately conducted a search operation and found the body of Balcita at 4:10 p.m.
    Over at Barangay Paoay Atok, the remains of a farmer were found in a ravine along km. 46 in Sitio Bonglo.
    Police identified the victim as Mayo Dongga-as, a resident of the barangay.
    Investigation showed the farmer was believed to have accidentally fallen into the ravine.
    He was last seen at around 11 a.m. of 23 April and was said to be intoxicated while standing on the edge of the road atop the ravine.
