31st SEA Games silver medalist from Bontoc cited

BONTOC, Mountain
Province -- The provincial government awarded a certificate of recognition to
Helen T. Aclopen of this capital town for bagging two silver and two bronze
medals in the Kurash Women’s-48kg category during the recently concluded 2022
Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held at the Hoai Duc Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The awarding was led by Executive Assistant to the Governor Jocelyn F. Culaling, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Jazzel Mae P. Masidong, Provincial Sports and Development Office officer-in-charge Nicasio L. Calde and Supervising Administrative officer Ernesto Emilio at the Governor’s Office on May 26.
Aclopen, who is from Barangay Dalican here is a member of the Kurash team who represented the Philippines in this year’s SEA Games.
This is the second time Aclopen participated the SEA Games.
Her first time was in 2019 where she competed in a contact sport called Sambo where she was a bronze medalist.
In an interview, Aclopen said martial arts played an important part in her life when she was a student.
She was granted full scholarship in the University of Baguio as one of the institution’s judo varsity player.
She was part of the team until she graduated in 2014 with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
In her college years, she competed in various school competitions like the Private Schools Athletic Association and Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League Competition.
She also participated in the national multi-sports tournament called Philippine National Games.
Aclopen said she was delighted to learn that many young people were actively participating in sports activities.
She urged her fellow athletes to continue competing in the spirit of sportsmanship while working hard to pursue their dreams.
Meanwhile, in compliance to Provincial Ordinance No. 351, Aclopen will be receiving a financial incentive from the provincial government.
