Wayward truck kills couple in N. Vizcaya

ARITAO, Nueva Vizcaya -- A couple died after they were buried under sacks of fertilizers when a wayward truck crashed into a store, rammed two other vehicles and fell on its side here in Purok 2, Bone South, Aritao town last week, police said.
    Maj. Jolly Villar, Nueva Vizcaya police spokesman, said Frederick del Mundo, 54, and his wife Gina, 55, were buying goods at the store when the trailer truck (RMD-336) and bed (BUF-706) allegedly suffered mechanical problems.
    As the truck fell on its side, sacks of fertilizers were dumped on the couple who were inside the store. The couple died instantly, according to a report.
    The truck also hit a motorcycle and a Toyota Hilux.
    The truck driver, identified as 47-year-old Jojo Odoñes of Cabatuan, Isabela, and a bystander, identified as 38-year-old Reginald Macaslam of Bone South suffered injuries and were brought to the hospital for treatment.
    Cpt. Roger Visitacion, Aritao police officer in charge, said the driver may have overshot the curved road, hit two other vehicles and crashed into the store.

Odoñes was charged for reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and serious physical injuries and damage to properties, Visitacion said.
