3,648 eye BSK posts in Mountain Province

BONTOC, Mountain Province -- The provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) bared 3,648 individuals filed their certificates of candidacy (CoCs) for positions in Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Oct. 30,
Provincial election supervisor Ricardo Lampac said the filing of CoCs from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2 was generally peaceful and orderly.
    For the province's 144 barangay (villages), there were a total of 420 aspirants for punong barangay (chairmen) and 2,300 candidates for barangay kagawad (councilors).
    Of 420 aspirants for punong barangay, 392 were males, 28 females while for barangay kagawad, there were 1,639 males and 661 females.
    For SK positions, there were 300 aspirants for SK chairmen in barangays while there were 628 bets for SK kagawad.
    Of those seeking election for SK chairmen, 184 were males, 116 females.
    Out of those seeking SK kagawad, 372 were males while 256 were females.
    Lampac said campaign period will be from Oct. 19 to 28.
    He warned premature campaigning will result in possible disqualification of candidates.
    The Comelec official said candidates will be required to sign a covenant for conduct of honest, orderly and peaceful elections.
