Politics not discounted by cops in La Union explosion

LUNA, La Union – An improvised explosive devise blasted a part of the municipal hall here at Nerra St. at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday in what police said could have been due to politics.

Provincial police chief Senior Supt. Franklin Bucayu said he was not discounting the possibility that the blast had something to do with the results of the May 14 elections.

“I heard that a recounting of ballots was held here recently,” Bucayu said in a radio interview.”

He said there was no casualty in the blast. “It was dark area, bystanders barely frequent that place,” Bucayu said. “However, glass panels at the north side of the municipal building were broken due to impact of the explosion.”

An IED also exploded in San Fernando City, the province’s capital two weeks ago, wounding a city engineering employee.

Two explosions also occurred in Agoo town, also in the province whereing three men were arrested with one of them injured.

They were believed to be supporters of losing candidates in the 2nd District. An IED and a hand grenade were also found in front of the San Fernando City Hall. – Jerry Padilla
