Two civilian informers get rewards from cops

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet -- Cordillera police handed out last week cash rewards to two civilian informers who helped in the recent arrest of two suspects in rape and murder cases.

Chief Supt. Orlando Pestano, Cordillera police director, gave a reward of P200,000 to the informant who helped in the arrest of Carlito Bolislis, who is facing five counts of rape before the Benguet regional trial court.

The other informer got P90,000 reward for tipping off the police on the whereabouts of murder suspect Noli Gubiangan.

“The cooperation of the two informants is a manifestation of the close working relationship of the police with the community on peace and order in the Cordillera region,” said Pestano, as he urged other residents to emulate their example.

Senior Supt. Alex Pumecha, Cordillera police intelligence chief, said the giving of rewards to informants is in line with the Letter of Instructions Manhunt Bravo of the Philippine National Police.

Pumecha said the reward money came from the program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Records show that Bolislis was accused of raping the twin daughters of his sister-in-law at knifepoint in September 2002. He was arrested in Proper Sagpat, Kibungan, Benguet last Feb. 15.

Gubiangan and his brothers were tagged in the fatal shooting of Vincent Adol, 19, a student of the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City, on April 12, 2006. He was arrested in Pico, La Trinidad, also in Benguet.
