BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya– Four people died while five others were hurt in separate road accidents last week involving a passenger bus, a van and a motorcycle in Isabela and Cagayan, respectively.
In San Mateo, Isabela, three persons died morning of August 31 in a road accident in San Mateo town, it was reported.
The accident involved a passenger bus and a private vehicle, a police commander said.
Police identified the fatalities as Ulpiano Tabangcura, driver of the Toyota Innova, of Mabalacat, Pampanga; and Evelio Tulanaun and Kenneth Arvin Taguiam Tulauan, both of Tugeugarao City.
Chief Insp. Ismael Atluna, San Mateo police chief, said the three fatalities were members of the Philippine Practical Shooting Association as indicated by the identification cards taken from their bodies.
Atluna said a Florida passenger bus was trying to overtake a tricycle in Barangay Sinamar Sur, San Mateo town when it hit a Toyota Innova vehicle, which was travelling on the opposite lane.
According to reports, the driver of the northbound bus was trying to avoid a poorly lighted tricycle which he failed to notice immediately.
This resulted to the bus’ ramming into the van coming from the opposite direction while slightly hitting the tricycle.
The tricycle’s three still unidentified passengers were also hurt.
The impact of the collision, Atluna said, instantantly killed the three occupants of the Toyota Innova.
Earlier, in Cagayan, Florencio Agsuana, 46, a security guard of the Cagayan State University died on the spot when the motorcycle he and two others were riding was hit by a passenger jeep in Tuguegarao City. – CL and Aaron Recuenco
