BAGUIO CITY — Police and city hall workers here seized over 200 kilos of suspected “double dead” pork placed in five separate sacks abandoned at the parking lot of the Maharlika Livelihood Center, adjacent to the Baguio City public market.
The five sacks of tainted pork were discovered by a security guard of the establishment.
After the discovery was reported to the Baguio City Police Office, intelligence agents conducted surveillance and waited for several hours to arrest the owner of the hot pork but their efforts were in vain.
The meat was turned over to the Cordillera office of the National Meat Inspection Service to prevent the distribution and sale of the same to innocent consumers in various stalls in the public market.
The city government and police are conducting massive operations against the rampant sale and distribution of double dead meat at the public market in order to curb the malpractices of unscrupulous vendors in mixing the tainted products with the fresh meat.
Earlier, city hall workers and police confiscated at least 100 kilos of double dead meat from various stalls in the different parts of the market.
Health experts warned individuals eating double dead meat will be exposed to various illnesses, which might result in various complications in the health conditions of the individuals.
