Inventor, bar flunkers press IBP to abolish 5-strike policy

BAGUIO CITY – An inventor is now heading a group of bar flunkers who are pressing the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to abolish its “five strike policy.”
Inventor Johnny Sy along with the “repeaters” submitted a petition recently to the
IBP on the issue saying there is an increasing number of law students failing and repeating bar exams but they shouldn’t be discouraged from pursuing their dreams of becoming lawyers.
The “five strike policy” is the rule of the law board that when an examinee takes the examination and fails five times, he will no longer be eligible to take it.
Sy, maker of Magichanic Oil, says this policy has shattered the dreams not only of examinees but also their parents.
He added law graduates spend a lot of money for the exams and reviews and when they are not allowed to take the exams their psychological and physiological well being are affected.
The petition said the ability and capability of the examinee should not just be measured by an exam.
If the IBP cannot abolish the said policy then, the parts that the examinee didn’t pass should be the only ones he should take up next time he takes the examinations, the petition said.
“Still, in the case of granting their petition, the petition said, the IBP must regulate the admission of students who want to take law so as not to crowd the country with lawyers upon passing the said exam through coordination with various law schools.” --Antonio Alvarez Sagud Jr and Lloyd Adrian C Villegas
