MP college head lashes at critics: You’re jealous

BONTOC, Mountain Province – The administration of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College here lashed out at purported alumni of the institution who had been circulating degrading, unfounded and rehashed allegations to ruin efforts of the school to achieve university status, saying such irresponsible and unethical efforts were moves of jealous quarters who wanted to get credit on the issue.

A group, who projected themselves as MPSPC alumni, had reportedly been spreading poison letters alleging among others the State-run higher education institution was not ready to attain university status because the present school administration has allegedly mismanaged the affairs of the school and that only those close to influential school officials and their relatives have been given juicy positions.

But Dr. Nieves A. Dacyon, MPSPC president, said she has high regard for reputation and professionalism of school alumni, thus, they were not the ones behind the poison letter which resurrected old issues that have been answered upon her assumption to office in 2005.

“If disgruntled quarters are really that intelligent and all knowing, they must contribute their knowledge and skills for the advancement of the institution and not hide under the guise of anonymity,” Dacyon stressed.

According to her, all transactions and appointments made by school officials are evaluated, reviewed and passed upon by concerned committees and approved by the board of Trustees which is composed of independent-minded and respected people, hence, it is unfair for some quarters to claim that she exercises her whims and caprices over important decision-makers.

Dacyon said the quest for MPSPC’s university status has been strongly and favorably endorsed by the barangays, municipalities and the province as well as the members of the BOT so it is understood that the stringent process towards university hood has been observed by the institution before the bill converting MPSPC into the Mountain Province State University has been filed in Congress.

The MPSPC official claimed it is unfortunate there are some quarters in the province who do not want the only State-run higher education institution to move on to greater heights to cater to the needs of the over 5,000 students enrolled in the school every year simply because of their personal and political aggrandizement.

MPSPC has voluntarily subjected itself to voluntary evaluation by the special team of the Commission on Higher Education in order to gauge its readiness to comply with the requirements of becoming one of the reputable state universities in the Cordillera in the future.
Initially, the CHED inspection team has recommended MPSPC’s elevation to the status of a university after the passage of the required congressional action provided that they comply with whatever appropriate recommendations were made. -- Dexter A. See
