Brothers wanted for shabu yield arms cache instead

SUAL, Pangasinan- The two brothers who were monitored pushing drugs yielded guns and bullets instead when police raided their house here last week.

Supt. Harris Fama, deputy police director for operations based in Lingayen, said initially they thought that brothers Enrico and Elmer Brudo of Barangay Pangascasan, Sual were only involved in illegal drugs but it turned out they maintained a cache of arms when raided by police led by Supt. Wilson Joseph Lopez, Intelligence officer of the Pangasinan police command under the directive of Senior Supt. Rosueto Ricaforte, newly-designated provincial police director.

Seized by Lopez and his men from the suspects were an M16 armalite rifle, 45 grease gun, Cal. 45 pistol assorted magazines and live bullets for M16, calibers 38 and 45.

Chief Supt. Orlando Mabutas, Region 1 police director, reported that the policemen were armed with search warrant when they raided the house of the suspects who were subjected to days of surveillance and close monitoring by police.

Mabutas said this was in preparation for the holding of a peaceful barangay election come October.

Newsmen also urged Mabutas, who is retiring on December, to conduct an honest campaign against illegal gambling in the region and not just resort to issuing press releases about his alleged accomplishments about illegal gambling.
