Composting machines due on December 8

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan Wednesday said the delivery of the awaited Environment Recycling System (ERS) waste composting machines has been moved from Dec. 2 to Dec. 8.

But the slight delay in the expected time of arrival of the machines would not put the city behind its target schedule of installing the units before Christmas day, the mayor said.

He said the Japanese firm that would supply the machines had assured that the machines would arrive in the country Dec. 4 and will be transported to the city on Dec. 8.

The Japanese technicians are also expected to arrive in the city on Dec. 4 to begin ground preparations for the installation of the machines at the Irisan dumpsite area. Installation and break-in would take around ten days, the mayor was told.

But even if the machines are not yet installed, the Japanese subsidiary Pro Tech Machinery Corporation assured that it will begin hauling out the city’s wastes this week. The hauling will be for free as per the memorandum of agreement earlier signed by the parties.

The mayor did not allot any funding for hauling out wastes beginning January next year banking on the deal with Pro Tech.

The ERS machines are expected to convert 48 tons out of the 66 tons of biodegradable wastes of the city daily.

The remaining 18 tons will be composed using other existing technologies of the city.

The company also will also take charge of hauling out residual wastes. – Aileen Refuerzo
