Two get life terms over 120 kilos of marijuana
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A trial court sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for transporting more than 120 kilos of dried marijuana bricks and tubes in Benguet almost three years ago, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said.
PDEA chief Jose Gutierrez Jr. said Judge Danilo Camacho of La Trinidad Regional Trial Court Branch 62 also ordered BasilioTulabis and SaturDayao, both of Kibungan, Benguet, to pay a P3 million fine each.
In his 15-page verdict, the Court ruled that the "charge is fully substantiated and established to have been committed by the two accused with the degree and quantum of evidence required by law for an accused to be convicted and found guilty of the crime."
The Court also maintained that there is "no reason to disbelieve, discredit or even doubt the veracity of the prosecution’s evidence."
Records showed that on Mar. 27, 2009, Kapangan, Benguet police nabbed Tulabis and Dayao during an interception operation for transporting 57 bricks and 13 tubes of dried marijuana leaves, weighing a total of 126.89 kilograms.
P125,000 MJ bricks taken in checkpoint
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Five pieces of marijuana bricks worth P125,000 were confiscated at a checkpoint here Feb. 26 at Talaca, Agbannawag from a Victory Bus liner.
The driver identified as Benny Betani and his helper Marlon Capuyan were questioned on the matter by police but denied ownership of the illegal drugs.
The name of a certain Jaime Pa-ut was written on the cartoon where the bricks were placed but contained no address but covered with a waybill number.
The confiscated dangerous drugs were confiscated by joint police elements of 3rd Maneuver Company Regional Public Safety Battalion led by Senior Insp. Joey MangaoangPrieto supervised by Chief Insp. Jomarick B. Felina and Provincial Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group led by Senior Benson BulicdayMacli-ing.
Rap singer, masseuse nabbed for selling shabu
BAGUIO CITY – A young rap singer and a masseuse, both 18 years old, were arrested here last week for selling shabu.
The rap singer who engaged his arresting officers in a brief foot chase, was pinned down with half a gram of shabu in a buy-bust operation near a mosque here at Crystal Cave, Bakakeng Central.
The 18 year old drug pusher sold about .50 grams of shabu for P3,000 to an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Cordillera.
John Emerson P. Tolentino, single, high school graduate, jobless, resident of No. 175 Crystal Cave, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City, was busted at around 5 p.m. Feb. 27.
A criminal case for illegal drugs will be filed in court against Tolentino who claimed he was a member of a local rap group which occasionally performs in bars in Baguio City, and that some of their recordings are even in the Youtube website. He likewise disclosed that he is both a pusher and a user of shabu.
Meanwhile, the masseuse was arrested in a buy-bust operation dawn Feb. 26 around 2:30 a.m.
In a report to Undersecretary Jose S. Gutierrez Jr., director general of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Gil Cesario P. Castro, regional PDEA Cordillera chief identified the suspect as Maricel M. Porciuncula, single, college undergraduate, massage therapist, resident of Monterrazas Village, Tuding, Itogon, Benguet.
The suspect reportedly tried to mislead drug law enforcement officers by telling providing a different name after she was arrested.
Police said she did not deny her name after lawmen found out it was broadly tattooed at her upper back, in bold letters with the words “Munti ex-con.”
Porciuncula allegedly sold two sachets of shabu to a PDEA in an anti-drug operation here at Barangay Padre Burgos.

LAGAWE, Ifugao – A man wanted for murder and frustrated murder is now incarcerated at the provincial jail here after was recently nabbed here.
Police led by Insp. LiwayanTapo earlier arrested Romeo HalawadLocoy, 54, married, resident of Ahin, Tinoc town in the province.
Locoy was arrested following a warrant issued by Joseph P Baguilat, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch14, Lagawe for murder with no bail recommended and frustrated murder with a recommended bail bond of 24, 000.

BAGUIO CITY – Police arrested a young man here along Legarda Road Feb. 24 for illegal possession of firearm.
The suspect was identified as Roger L. Latungan, 21 of Banao, Bauko, Mt. Province and resident of Lubas, La Trinidad, Benguet.
This, following a warrant for his arrest issued by Teodorico Alfonso P. Bauzon, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court, Branch 63, First Judicial Region, Rosales, Pangasinan for violation of Presidential Decree.
Bauzon recommended bail bond of P200,000 for Latungan’s temporary liberty.
The suspect was later turned over to La Trinidad, Benguet police
Farmer nabbed for sale of shabu
BAGUIO CITY – A farmer was nabbed here Feb. 24 around 6 p.m. for illegal possession of shabu.
The suspect was identified as Isidro E. Boado, 45, native of Linapacan, Palawan.
A police report said personnel of the Special Operation Unit- Regional Anti – Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group led by SPO3 Raymond B Tacio, under supervision of Supt. Adonis Bangyay Guaman arrested Boado at the intersection of Naguilian Road and San Carlos, Baguio at a waiting shed.
Confiscated from the suspect were shabu valued at P7,000, three pieces of P1,000.00 bills and three pieces of boodle money used in the buy bust operation and one Nokia cellular phone used during the transaction.
Seized pieces of evidence were turned over to Philippine national Police crime laboratory in Camp BadoDangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet while suspect was subjected to drug testing and incarcerated.
The operation was conducted after coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera and Baguio police.
