Am-among Festival events in the works

BONTOC, Mountain Province -- Preparations for the indigenous Am-among |Festival is on.

The municipal government is now soliciting suggestions on activities and support from constituents for the festival which has drawn raves from tourists.

The festival is now on its eighth year which had become a significantevent for residents of this capital town.

Officials said there is need to improve strengthen festival activities.

For this year, the municipal government under the administration of Mayor PascualSacgaca wanted the Am-among to be a celebration of local culture with a view for its appreciation and preservation.

Officials said it will be anchored on  promotion of Bontoc as eco/cultural destination in Mountain Province aside from the tourist towns of Sagada and Banaue.

           

Activities proposed for this this year’s staging were street dancing; folkdance contest; sports activities such as volleyball and marathon; agro-industrial trade fair; feeding and concert.

Others were cultural presentations, photo exhibits that will feature municipal tourist spots, agri-industrial fair, government services fair, Miss Bontoc Pageant; talent shows, recognition activities among others.

Mayor Sacgaca reportedly with Sangguniang Bayan secretary Arthur Culallad and executive assistant Rene Ramel earlier thought of involving the public in preparation for the event.
