P’sinan town councilor dies in highway mishap

LABRADOR, Pangasinan – A municipal councilor of the neighboring town of Sual died while his companion was injured when a truck rammed the vehicle they were riding in Barangay Uyong here Tuesday night, authorities said.

Police said councilor Gideon Garcia was driving an Isuzu Hi Lander with Arnulfo Legero, an employee of the Sual municipal government, as passenger when the vehicle was hit by a truck heading toward the opposite direction.

The collision caused Garcia to lose control of the steering wheel, sending the vehicle swerving to the left shoulder of the highway and smashing into a concrete fence on a vacant lot.

Labrador police and the Sual rescue team brought Garcia to the Nazarene Hospital in Lingayen where he was declared dead on arrival.

Legero was initially rushed to the Labrador Community Hospital but was later brought to a hospital in Dagupan City.

Police were still tracking down the truck involved in the accident.
