BAGUIO CITY - This city’s local Liberal Party and Nationalist People's Coalition ticket for the 2013 polls has been finalized.
The merger aims to support the
tandem of businessman Mark Go (LP) and former city councilor and United Nations
expert on indigenous peoples Jose Molintas (NPC) for the congressional and
mayoralty posts.
Go, also the LP chairman in the
city, announced the LP-dominated coalition after a meeting attended by
representatives of the two parties that happened at the Claro M. Recto Navy
Base on Oct. 26.
This ends the supposed mad
scramble for the coalition’s mayoralty bet after hotelier Freddie Gonzales
withdrew his candidacy a week before.
The supposed substitution of
regional trial court Judge EdilbertoClaravall of Gonzales’ bid also did not
happen.
The local Liberal Party also
chose Go as the official spokesperson to issue official statements related to
the local LP machinery and issues pertaining to the coalition.
With the support of LP national
officials, Go was given the go-signal to do all acts which paved for
strengthening of the LP machinery for the coming May 2013 elections.
Go has earlier declared support
for Molintas who was the 2010 mayoralty bet of the LP in the city and an LP
member prior to the filing of his candidacy for the mayoralty position for
2013.
Meanwhile, the coalition is also
finalizing its slates for the City Council.
Commission on Election records
showed candidates who filed under LP are incumbent councilors Poppo Cosalan and
Ed Bilog, Olowan, Bruce Limmayog, Peter Wasing, Arthur Allad-iw, Rudy Paraan,
Willy Occidental, AgatonYaranon and Leandro Yangot.
Rob Ocampo, Basilio Fongayao and
Anthony Araos filed under the NPC while Frisco Domalsin filed under the Laban
ng Demokratikong Pilipino. Youth leader Van Dicang also filed his candidacy for
vice-mayor under the NPC.
