FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City -- Vice Admiral
Edgar L. Abogado Friday assumed as new superintendent of the Philippine
Military Academy after brief turn-over
ceremonies here.
He underscored the immense responsibility of
the position being the head of the military institution which train future
officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and leaders of the country.
True to his word, many of the former members
of the PMA cadet corps, referred at times as the “Long Grey Line,” became not
only as distinguished officers of the AFP and the Philippine National Police
but also as national leaders.
Among them is former President Fidel V. Ramos
who was a PMA cadet before he entered West Point in the United States of
America.
Since l937, even exchange scholar cadets from
foreign countries graduated from the institution until PMA was regarded over
the years as Asia’s premier military school.
The foreign exchange scholars from Asian
countries proved they are also capable for the extensive academic and military
training here that there was even a time when foreign cadet from Singapore
topped the graduating class in the l970’s. -- PNA
