Hedcor, an Aboitiz Power subsidiary gets
multiple Seal of Approval from the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) for its run-of-river hydropower plants in Benguet, Davao City
and Davao del Sur.
For its dedication to
sustainable environmental activities, Hedcor was named amongst the country’s
top ten most earth-friendly firm by DENR under its Philippine Environmental
Partnership Program (PEPP) Track 1 category last February 20 at Sulo Riviera
Hotel, Quezon City.
DENR undersecretary
Demetrio Ignacio Jr. led the awarding ceremony congratulating the winners for
making “a mark in their environmental performance not so much as a corporate
social responsibility program but as an integral part of their operations.”
The PEPP is a DENR
partnership program with industries aimed to support industry self-regulation
towards improved environmental performance.
The Track 1 industries
are large companies that go beyond compliance and are driven by
competitiveness, image and supply chain requirements to improve performance.
Like the other
awardees, Hedcor passed a series of evaluation stages including a table
validation of documentary requirements and site validation activities by the
Environmental Management Bureau Regional Offices and the members of the
PEPP-Technical Evaluation Committee.
This is the third time
that Hedcor’s environmental initiatives were recognized for the same award
given by the agency.
“We are very thankful
that DENR recognize our efforts for a sustainable environment. It is our goal
to provide reliable energy supply while keeping in mind the environment, thus
our pursuit of Cleanergy” Gregorio Jabonillo, Hedcor’s vice president said.
Hedcor sets targets
for each year planting trees not less than 100,000. The company completed its
pledge to manage 1000 hectares of watershed within the protected areas of Mt.
Apo Natural Park.
Hedcor shares this
milestone to the host communities that serves as their partners as stewards the
environment. By engaging its host communities in various environmental
activities like tree planting, river clean-up and solid waste management,
Hedcor upholds the value of unified efforts.
Another Aboitiz Power
subsidiary, the Aboitiz Power Renewables, Inc. was also awarded in the event.
To this date, the
agency has recognized 67 industries under the Track 1 Category of PEPP.
At present Hedcor has
19 plants with a total capacity of 155MW. Another two will be added to the
portfolio this year as the Tudaya plants in Davao del Sur is nearing completion
while the 14MW Sabangan project in Mt. Province is under construction.
