Businessman nabbed
for shooting victim
BAGUIO CITY -- A businessman was nabbed for shooting a victim after a heated argument afternoon of Sept. 25 in the former’s residence here at Legarda Extension, Ferdinand barangay.

Alberto Manongsong Balitaan, 62, reported the
incident and said EmersonLibunao Callanta, 41, businessman, of Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija shot the victim identified as
Renato Villanueva Velasco, 52, resident of the same place who first attempted
to attack with his knife.
The
family of the victim brought him to the Baguio
General Hospital Medical Center for medical treatment.
Responding police personnel of the Police Station
5 arrested Callanta and recovered the Cal. 45 pistol used
in the crime.
Sablan
farmer jailed for hacking man
SABLAN, Benguet -- A farmer was locked up in jail after hacking a fellow farmer at here at Barangay Bagong on Sept. 25.

Local
police and barangay chairman Paul M. Dio-al facilitated the
surrender of the suspect identified as Jeffrey Carpio Tonged, 43, a resident of
Bagong.
Tonged
reportedly hacked the victim named Bryan Wayan Pilay, 32, of Tofil, Bagong, who
was rushed to Benguet General Hospital for medical treatment.
A
case of frustrated homicide was filed against Tonged and he is now detained at
La Trinidad District Jail, La Trinidad, Benguet.

companions were returning to their room from a laundry shop when they met the
suspect identified as Rolando RazonNatividad Jr., 45, unemployed, and resident
of Barangay Hillside, Baguio City who
came out from their rented room holding the victim’s Samsung laptop.
Sarmiento
immediately called for assistance.
Natividad
was arrested by concerned citizen with the help of the responding police
personnel of Police Station 3 who happened to be patrolling.
“We
are seeking the help of the people to report even the smallest crimes, so that
we may effectively deploy policemen and efficiently analyze crime trends,” said
Chief Supt. Isagani Nerez, Cordillera police director.

Ifugao – A New People’s Army medical officer
surrendered to the operatives of the Regional Public Safety Battalion,

Intelligence Division Sept. 28 at around 3:30 in this town.

IsaganiNerez identified the rebel returnee as Robert
Bahingawan Ayah-op a.k.aBenjie,
29,
a native of Bocoh, Cawayan, Asipulo here who surrendered without firearm.
Erez
said Ayah-op was a member of the Squad Dos-Team 2 under the faction of certain
a.k.a. Krid. of the Nona Del Rosario Command of the Sangay ng Partidosa Platoon
of Ifugao.

police, military score vs illegal logging
ALFONSO
LISTA, Ifugao -- The Philippine National Police and Philippine Army reported successful
operations against illegal logging in the province recently.
Ifugao
PNP provincial director Johnny Colinio said police confiscated 60 pieces of
lumber in Lagawe, and a case was already filed in court against the culprit.
Under
the joint operation of the Aguinaldo Municipal Police Station, the 54th
Infantry Battalion and personnel of the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources, they apprehended about 2,692 board feet of soft wood
in Monggayang, Aguinaldo.
This
was followed by the confiscation by the PNP of Gmelinalumber in
Bunhian, Aguinaldo.Some 112 pieces lumber were also confiscated at
Bangar, this municipality.
The
military added that they also confiscated 925.21 board feet illegally cut Gmelina
lumber at Ubao, Aguinaldo.
Colinio
said that the confiscated lumbers were deposited at the DENR office.
According
to Brigadier General Roger Salvador, commanding officer of the 501st Brigade,
5th Infantry Division, the confiscated lumber will undergo due process
and if the lumber are forfeited in favor of the government, priority will be given
to the Department of Education to be made into chairs, tables and
furniture for the school to use.
Lawyer
Leticia Morales, president of the Ifugao Federation of Senior Citizens
Associations, commended the police and the military for their accomplishment
in anti-illegal logging operations.
For
these accomplishments, the PNP and the military were recently commended by the

Elusive
couple nabbed by PDEA agents for drugs
BAGUIO CITY -- Agents of the Philippine
Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region arrested Oct. 4 a
couple, who are included in the wanted list of drug personalities, at their
residence here at Crystal Cavey.
Sonny
MacalbeTaher, 49 and his wife Alma MadidTaher, 22, both vendors and
natives of Maguing, Lanao del Sur were arrested by virtue of warrants of arrest
issued by the Judge Antonio C. Reyes of the Regional Trial Court Branch 61,
Baguio City.
The
couple earlier eluded arrest when PDEA-CAR operatives together with members of
the Police Regional Office-Cordillera, Baguio City Police Office and Criminal
Investigation and Detection Group Cordillera served search warrant at their
residence last Feb. 12.
Cases
for illegal drugs were filed against the couple.
