Two motorcycles collide; one driver dead

KIANGAN, Ifugao – A motorcycle driver died after his vehicle collided with another trike about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday at Sitio Mapipiwong, Barangay Bolog here. The vehicles involved were a red Euro motorcycle, owned and driven by Delfin Amoguis Cabrero, 44, and black Honda Wave 125 with no plate number driven by Herbert Puguon Inlagim, 24.

A police report said Cabrero suffered abrasions and contusions in his body and was brought to the Kiangan rural health unit for treatment but opted to go for check-up and X-ray at Panopdopan District Hospital. Meanwhile Inlagim suffered serious physical injuries and was rushed to Panopdopan District Hospital in Bannit, Lamut town but was referred at PLT Hospital in Solano Nueva Vizcaya where he was declared dead by attending physician at about 1:15 p.m.

Passenger jeep loses brakes; 14 injured

BAGUIO CITY – A passenger jeep which lost its brakes bumped an Isuzu Forward truck parked unattended along Lower Magsaysay Ave. about 9:30 of Nov. 25 resulting to injury of 14 passeners.

A police report said the jeep bearing plate number AYH-757, was driven by Mr. Miller Balictan Cuenco, 22, single, and a resident of Camp Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet. 

Investigation revealed upon losing brakes, the jeep bumped the front portion of the truck. Eleven of the victims were brought to Pines City Doctors Hospital. They were identified as Devora Pili Bolona, 18; Mary Jane Licupa Ducusin, 24: Walter Daluyen Jenasen 17; Rheba Claire Dalusen Wanas, 17; Jerrica Dalusen Wanas, 21;

Raquel Diwas Vasadre, 24; Diana Amkinit Macagne, 27; Liis Nimuel Foraki, 17:  Agnes Grace Magbuan Orencia, 26; Genevive Dumis Ti, 26 and Desiree Casio Estong, 22.

Two were brought to Baguio General Hospital: Elsie Betiwin Bayongasan, 49 and Monica Pugsong Bentrez, 21. One was brought to Benguet General Hospital identified as Marites B. Madao, 30 who was 5-months pregnant.

Responding traffic cops confiscated the driver license including the OR/CR of the jeep.

18 hospitalized after eating tuna in Isabela

TUGUEGARAO CITY – Eighteen persons were hospitalized after eating tuna in Naguilian, Isabela Nov. 29.

The victims suffered dizziness, nausea, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, numbness, itchiness, and abdominal and chest pain, according to Chief Insp. Sherwin Concha, town police chief.

Concha said the victims bought the tuna from a vendor who peddled it in the villages of Sta. Victoria and Bagong Sikat.

He said the fish was cooked in different ways, but most of the victims were male, who made the fish into “kilawin,” for their “pulutan” for their drinking session.

Officers from the municipal health office took samples of the fish for examination. – By Raymund Catindig       

College instructor slapped over cash collection  

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Police reported a case of physical injuries that transpired about 8 a.m. of Nov. 25 near Gate 1 of Mountain Province State Polytechnique College here at Barangay Poblacion. Complainant was Joni Lang-guyan Pagandiyan, 38, college instructor, of Sadsadan, Bauko while suspect was named as Dan Evert C.Sokoken, 45, of Barangay Maligcong.

Investigation revealed both parties had a misunderstanding about misplaced cash collection of student organization at the said school until the suspect suddenly slapped the victim. The victim ignored the incident to prevent further trouble but the suspect returned and attempted to inflict further injury while shouting at him. They were pacified by other employees of the said school.

Ecija No. 1 most wanted captured

SCIENCE CITY OF MUNOZ -- Finally, after more than 10 years, justice is about to be served on the cold-blooded killing of a helpless farmer.

This came as police here led by PSupt Ponciano Zafra arrested Catalino Sagnip Enriquez, AKA Cata, 57, of Barangay Bantog, who is the No. 1 in the police’s Top 10 Most Wanted list.

Enriquez is the prime suspect in the broad daylight murder of Renato Lumabao in Nov. 3, 2005.

In his report, Zafra also revealed the arrest of the 2 other alleged accomplices of Enriquez who are Reynaldo Masiglat Quiming (AKA Ellot), 49, and Isabelo Collado Quiming (AKA Sabelo), 53, both from Barangay Maragol.

According to police record, Lumabao was gunned down around noon time while harvesting his palay at Purok Sapang Bato, Barangay Maragol, more than 10 years ago.

“Sa pagkakahuli namin kina Enriquez, uusad na ang hustisya sa pagpatay kay Lumabao”, said Zafra.

Zafra who assumed as chief of police of this city barely 2 months ago pledged to arrest all the listed top 10 most wanted persons before the year ends.

“Kahit na saan pa sila, kahit sino pa sila, tungkulin naming ipatupad ang batas sa mga krimeng nagawa nila. Bago December 30, sinisiguro ko na mahuhuli namin ang lahat ng top 10 most wanted dito”, said Zafra who belong to the PNPA batch 1998.

Enriquez and the Quimings were charged of murder before the Baloc Regional Trial Court Branch 88.

In related development, Zafra also disclosed the arrest of this city’s No. 4 drug personality.

He identified the apprehended drug peddler as Eric Terencio Maniago, 34, of Barangay Poblacion East.

Maniago was nabbed when a court-issued search warrant was served at his residence where a sachet of shabu, a digital weighing scale and various drug paraphernalia were confiscated.

Suspect in shooting of farmer surrenders gun

TINEG, Abra -- A suspect in a shooting incident identified as Reynante Babila, farmer and resident of Poblacion Agsimao here voluntarily surrendered a Cal. 38 handgun to kagawad Orlino Ramirez who in turn gave the gun to town police Nov. 28.  The gun was reportedly used in the shooting of another farmer identified as Michael Galia Buday, 39 in Poblacion Agsimao afternoon of Nov. 22.

Driver, wife injured in Ambuklao Road mishap

BOKOD, Benguet – Two persons were critically injurted when a vehicular accident transpired at Km 292, Baguio-Benguet National Road, Ambuclao here about 4 p.m., Nov. 29, wherein a Toyota van with plate number THA 135 driven by Emilio Lamian Asiong was bumped by a Mitsubishi Strada with plate number UTB 829 driven by Arthur Paatan Claudio.

Investigation disclosed the Strada traversed the other lane and bumped the driver’s door of the Toyota van. As a result, the driver of the Strada and his wife sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the Dennis Molintas Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police report didn’t name the victims. Both vehicles incurred damages.

DENR employee nabbed for illegal gun

LUBA, Abra – An employee of the Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources was arrested at a checkpoint here for illegal possession of firearm. The suspect, a suspect in the shooting of an unidentified man was on board a black Honda TMX motorcycle identified as Apolinario Villarus Daquel, 51, of Luba town was arrested in Sitio Gaco, Barangay Siblong, Bucay town afternoon of Nov. 27, 2015.  Confiscated from his possession was a Cal. 22 handgun and 10 bullets. Charges were prepared against him for illegal gun.

Woman arrested for estafa

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A 25-year-old woman was arrested at here residence here at her home at Barangay Balili Nov. 23 for estafa. Baguio cops detained Krista Clondy Abalos Maliones, 25, after arrest warrant was issued against her by Maria Ligaya V. Itliong-Rivera, presiding judge, First Judicial Region, Regional Trial Court, Branch 5, Baguio City. The suspect later postee bail of P100, 000 for her  temporary liberty.

60-year-old man mauled over parking tiff

BAGUIO CITY -- A 60-year-old man was mauled by two much younger men here along Kayang and Shagem Street around 9 a.m. Nov. 30. The victim was identified as Antonio Flores Reyes Jr., here of Purok 15, Barangay Irisan. Suspects were named as Roberto Pidlaoan Budiao, 47, and Salvador Pidlaoan Budiao, 39, both residents of Purok 7, Brookspoint, Aurora Hil.

Investigation disclosed the victim parked his vehicle along 1stKayang Street and noticed the motorcycle of Roberto parked near his vehicle. The victim told Roberto to be careful he might hit or scratch his vehicle. Roberto got angry and challenged him to a fist fight. To avoid trouble, the victim was about leave but Salvador Budiao hit the victim’s forehead using a motorcycle helmet. The two suspects then aided one another in mauling the victim causing him to stumble and roll on the pavement. They were pacified when members of Public Order Safety Division and policemen personnel arrived.

The case was brought to the inquest prosecutor who ordered the suspects incarcerated at the city jail.

4 motorcycles stolen in Baguio, Kabayan

BAGUIO CITY – Still unidentified persons stole three motorcycles here and one in Kabayan, Beneguet last week. The first incident happened Nov. 30 along access road going to Purok 3 Apugan with victim identified as Egly A. Diaz, 27, bouncer of Spade Bar. Investigation revealed that the victim parked his motorcycle along five other motorcycles and proceeded to the house of his friend. Hours later, he discovered that his vehicle was no longer in the parking area taken by still unidentified suspects.

In another incident same day, still unidentified thieves stole a  motorcycle parked along Bonifacio Street, Holyghost Proper. Victim was identified as Cesario Abellera Estepa, 58, plumber.   Investigation disclosed that around 6 p.m. of Nov. 29, victim’s nephew named Jayson Naoe allegedly parked the motorcycle described as a white Rusi with plate no. SR 7692. At around 6:30 the next day,  the victim discovered that his motorcycle was missing which prompted him to call for police assistance.

In another case, a certain Kenneth T. Thornhill, 58, married, US citizen, and  resident of Tam-awan Village, Pinsao Proper here told police his

parked his Skygo motorcycle with plate number 7IC-75104 at the area around 11 a.m. Nov. 16. The d motorcycle was discovered missing only on Nov.  29 taken by still unidentified thieves.

In Kabayan, Nov. 30, Mark Masweng Dangilan, 33, security guard, and resident of Purok 21 SarilingSikap, Baguio, reported to town police that his motorcycle, a Honda XRM with P.N. AA15456 was missing and believed stolen by unidentified suspects.

Investigation disclosed that at about 6 p.m. of Nov. 29, the victim reported for duty as security guard at the Globe Cellsite in Tabalan, Poblacion, Kabayan and parked his vehicle around 500 meters away from his post.  When the victim checked his motorcycle at about 11 a.m. of Nov. 30 he discovered it was missing.

Farmer in critical condition after being hacked

TINEG, Abra – A farmer is now in critical condition after he was hacked several times by a resident here about 5 p.m. of Nov. 29 in Sitio Tegdak, Poblacion, Agsimao. The victim is identified as Dewey Guetang Guren, 52 here of  Tekleb, Cogon, Tineg while the suspect was named as Divera B. Felix, of of Sitio Loyon, Cogon. The victim  sustained hack wounds on his head, chest and left knee and he was taken by Tineg cops to Abra Provincial Hospital for medical treatment where he wqas confined. .

Pickpocket jailed for taking girl’s cell phone

BAGUIO CITY – An alleged pickpocket is now in jail here after stealing a cell phone from his young victim. A police report said the incident happened about 12:10 p.m. of Nov.  29 at Shagem St.  The victim was identified as Ashlee Angelei Andrada Dumpit, 12, Grade 7, student at SLU Laboratory High School, and  resident of Kamog, Sablan, Benguet. The  suspect was named as Jeffrey Aglutay Palit-ang, 40, jobless of Nueva Ecija, and presently residing of here of Camp 7. Investigation showed when the victim is walking with her mother, she noticed her Torque cell phone worth P5, 000 was stolen from her pocket. A male passersby pinpointed the suspect who took the cell phone. The victim held the suspect and screamed for help. Bystanders in the area heard the commotion and went to aid the victim. The cell phone of the victim was recovered inside a parked jeep which was allegedly thrown by the suspect. The suspect was brought jailed as as directed by the inquest prosecutor.

Tourist guide shot dead

BAGUIO CITY – A shooting incident transpired at about 9:30 p.m. Nov.  30 here along Pinewood Street, Crystal Cave, Bakakeng Central near Panansar Store wherein victim identified as one Mark U. Galvin, 35 years, tourist guide, native of Cavite and  resident of Asin Road here was  shot dead by unidentified suspect.

Initial investigation disclosed that Zirad Naga Datumulok, 38, taxi driver, of Lanao Del Sur and resident of Pinewood, while walking home with hiws wife, saw several persons standing along the roadside near Panansar Store and were talking regarding a person that was shot.

When he saw the victim, he immediately reported the incident to cops. The suspect reportedly fled towards Crystal Cave Road, Bakakeng Central. The victim was identified by his live-in partner Mara Yakat Malaca, a transgender, 36, businesswoman, native of Nueva Ecija and a resident of Asin Road.

According to Malaca, prior to the incident they had misunderstanding up to the present and they had no contact with each other.

Police found black helmet; four fired cartridge cases, black hat; black bullcap and dark blue bag containing his personal belongings and drug paraphernalia. The cadaver of the victim was brought at Bahay Damayan Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Mayor, lady, surrender gun, grenade respectively 

CONNER, Apayao -- Mayor Leonardo B. Dangoy surrendered a Cal. 45 pistol, owned by a member of the Cordillera People’s Liberation Army  here  Nov. 26, 2015.  This, as a concerned citizen surrendered to Bangued, Abra a hand grenade  she recovered while cleaning  their surroundings morning of Nov. 27.

Businessman nearly killed inside mosque

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao – Police reported a case of attempted homicide saying  Alimar Gamor Pasandalan, 39, businessman, reported to police that at about 1 p.m. of Nov. 29, inside the Muslim mosque here at Barangay Sta. Maria, a certain Dynar Pasandalan Pacalna alias “Nardy”, 50, businessman, Muslim, got his Cal. 45 pistol, cocked it and pointed it to his (Pasandalan) breast. He was about to pull the trigger when their Muslim companions held Pacalna. Town cops responded to the crime scene but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

Two ‘salvage’ victims found in Gerona 

Gerona, Tarlac - - Is this town now a killing fields? 

This came as two victims of “brutal extra-judicial killing” were found here over the week end in barangay Buenlag.

“Nakatali ng alambre, naka-tape ang mga bibig, may mga saksak at pinagbabaril pa”, this was how witnesses described the two male cadavers found in their barangay.

The bodies were discovered around 6 a.m. at a lot beside an isolated unpaved road and where the nearest house is around 300 meters.

Neighbors say they heard several gunshots around 4 a.m. that early morning but were too afraid to go out and check.

Last month, a local resident was gunned-down near his house here at Barangay Poblacion 3. The victim was identified as Michael Manalili, 44, who was shot 3 times on his way home past midnight some 3 weeks ago by still unidentified motorcycle riding gunmen.

As of this writing, police have no lead on the identities of the 2 male bodies but were described as “victims of summary execution”.

Truck falls down Natonin ravine; engineer injured

NATONIN, Mountain Province – A dump truck driven by a civil engineer fell down a precipice here at Sitio Takib around 7 a.m. of Nov. 22. A police report said volunteers immediately responded and brought the driver identified as Manie Dom-ayan Cawalo, 39 of Barangay Tocucan, to Barlig District Hospital.

The report said the accident happened along Barlig-Natonin Road around 12 midnight of Nov. 22. The vehicle came from Poblacion, Barlig, going towards their camp at Sitio Takib but while traversing said place the driver was not able to steer the vehicle making it fall down20-meter deep ravine. As a result, the vehicle incurred damages and the driver was brought to Barlig District Hospital for medical treatment and referred immediately by his attending physician to Bontoc General Hospital.

RO-1 gets 40 patrol jeeps

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – The Police Regional Office 1 here received 40 patrol jeeps to boost the anti-crime campaign in Ilocos Norte and La Union.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento turned over the Mahindra patrol jeeps to PRO-1 Chief Superintendent Ericson Velasquez on Friday.

Ilocos Norte got 21 jeeps while La Union received 19.

Sarmiento said the Ilocos Norte and La Union police could now enhance crime response and better implement Operation Lambat-Sibat, an anti-crime campaign the Philippine National Police said is effective in Metro Manila.

Sarmiento announced the additional procurement of 16,000 firearms amounting to P2.1 billion for the local police.

“Aside from vehicles, we will also provide communications equipment amounting to more than P800 million and protective vests for our policemen,” he said.

Velasquez thanked Sarmiento for the patrol jeeps.

The PRO-1 received a total of 116 Mahindra patrol jeeps, including those distributed to Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur.       

PNP PRO-COR opens photo contest to public

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – The Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR) is inviting photographers to join the “1st Cordillera Police  @ Ur Serbis ” photography contest themed: “More than a cop.”

This contest aims to develop and raise photographic and creative talent of the participant showcasing heroism and good deeds of a police officer with the objective of highlighting the PNP motto of “We Serve and Protect” and its core values: “Service, Honor, Justice”.

Interested contestants may submit their entries anytime up to Jan. 2, 2016 at the Public Information Office, Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) for three categories.

The PNP Catgegory is open to all uniformed and non-uniformed members of the PNP assigned in any division or support unit of PRO-COR.

The Media Category is open to all photographers officially working for any tri-media outfit in Cordillera.

The Cirtizen Category is open to civilians and bonafide residents of the Cordillera Administrative Region. Minors or 17 years old and below are not eligible for the contest.

 Contestant apparatus during the contest will be any Point & Shoot digital or DSLR camera, however, Photo entries taken from any cellular phones are allowed for citizens and PNP categories only.

 Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of three entries. Entries must be printed in 10” x 12” photo paper. Enclosed in the entries are the soft copies of the photographs saved in a CD/CDR and any entry with identifying mark will not be accepted. Participants will shoulder all costs relative to the creation and submission of their entries.

 Rules for the photo contest: All entries must not have won in any previous photo contest or have been used for commercial purposes and/or been published and minimal photo enhances which is limited to cropping and brightness and contrast adjustments are allowed; Photos taken in multiple exposures are not eligible for the contest; Photos taken using HDR will not be allowed for the media category.

Only full colors photo entries are allowed. There must be a PNP member in the picture who is identifiable and must portray the best in the PNP i.e. the PNP’s daily heroism to serve and protect the people.

All Photo Entries must have the following information listed in a separate short bond paper: Full name of photographer, age, a xerox copy of any valid ID; home address and mobile number.

Violation of any above-stated rules and/or non-compliance of the same shall be a ground for automatic disqualification.

For the winners of each category, prizes are as follows: first prize: ​P 10,000.00 plus certificate for the photographer; decond prize: ​P 7, 500.00 plus certificate for the photographer and third prize: ​P5, 000.00 plus certificate for the photographer. There is also a winner of Human Interests with same prices. Ten Honorable Mentions will also be given P1,000 plus certificate for photographers from the three categories.

This is the first time to have this event by the Regional Public Information Office supported by the Acting Regional Director Chief Supt. Ulysses Abellera and Command Group.
