URDANETA CITY – The
police chief here has been asked to explain the circumstances behind 40 missing
firearms.
Edwin Mapili,
assistant director of the National Police Commission-Ilocos, said he relayed to
Supt. Marceliano Desamito Jr., acting city police chief, the instructions of
Napolcom regional director Evangeline Almirante to give a report within five
days.
“This is the first
time that we have 40 missing firearms…We encounter cases of missing firearms,
but very rarely. Only one officer accidentally lost his firearm after he
dropped it during an operation,” Mapili said.
Desamito could not be
reached for comment. -- Eva Visperas
