Kalinga tribal heroes’ home- town declared heritage village

leading struggle vs Chico Dam
TINGLAYAN, Kalinga --
Barangay Bugnay here, home of two Kalinga tribal leaders was declared a
heritage village to honor their martyrdom for leading the struggle against
the Chico Dam project during the Marcos regime.
Kalinga
Provincial Ordinance No. 2017-003 declared Barangay Bugnay as
heritage village in memory of the bravery of the late Cordillera heroes
Macliing Dulag and Pedro Dungoc.
The
ordinance mandated the provincial government to provide funds for the
establishment, improvement and maintenance of the concrete grave of Macliing
Dulag and declared it a memorial landmark because of its importance in
Cordillera and national history.
During the
37th memorial program of the duo’s martyrdom on April 25 at Bugnay, officials,
guests and their descendants made the ground breaking of the statue of Dulag
along highway 204 of the Tinglayan-Bontoc boundary and Cagaluan national road.
The
occasion was graced by Butch Rufino, Department of Education National Director
on Indigenous Peoples Education, Fr. Adonis Bringas of the Office of the
Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Kalinga Vice Governor James Edduba
and Cordillera Bodong Administration President Andres Ngao-i.
The
commemoration was also attended by the Butbut tribe, the tribe of Dulag and
