BAGUIO CITY – Classes for elementary and secondary levels
were suspended here last week as the Batang Pinoy games kicked off after the
Philippine Sports Commission and local government decided to move schedule of
games for Typhoon Ompong to head away.
Mayor Mauricio G.
Domogan ordered suspension of classes in billeting schools, specifically the
Baguio Central School, Josefa Carino Elementary School, Pines City National
High School, Baguio City High School, Mabini Elementary School, Quezon Elementary
School and SPED Center.
PSC officials committed
to help delegations from Visayas and Mindanao who earlier booked their return
trips to justify rebooking of their trips back to their places of origin after
the decision to move back the games was reached.
Some 7,000 athletes and
sports officials arrived in the city last week to participate in 28 events
lined up for the competition wherein 22 games were played in the sports venues
around the city while six sports events were played in sports facilities in La
Trinidad, Benguet. -- Dexter A. See
