KAPANGAN,
Benguet -- The Benguet Electric Cooprative recently energized 487 households in
the four barangays of this town as part of the Nationwide Intensification of
Housing Electrification (NIHE) Project.
That work elicited a resolution of gratitude from the
Kapangan Sangguniang Bayan headed by vice-mayor Mayo Eslay through Resolution
2018-90 adopted last July 24.
The municipal council noted “this project contributed
to the development of the community of Kapangan not only by giving the
opportunity to experience the comfort of having electricity but also to fully
use the potentials of electricity in relation to entrepreneurial endeavors.”
To further intensify the electrification program, the
BENECO board led by president Rocky Aliping has adopted a resolution seeking a
calamity assistance subsidy from the National Electrification Administration
amounting to P3,142,134.48.
Beneco took the queue from NEA Circular No.
2016-01-0001 known as the “Adoption of Energy Resiliency in the Planning and
Programming of the Energy Sector to Mitigate the Impacts of Disaster”.
In
seeking the subsidy, the BENECO board of directors led by president Aliping
noted the cooperative incurred several damages in its distribution network
amounting to the cost being sought from NEA.
The
major damages included 11 poles, 11 distribution transformers and 119 units
protection facilities, according to Engr. Melchor Licoben, head of the cooperatives
Network Services Department.
The
damages were caused by typhoons Inday and Josie and monsoon rains occurring
