Bontoc am-among dance tilts on Sept 15

Province- Folkdance and ballroom competitions are set here Sept. 15 at the
Bontoc municipal capitol quadrangle in celebration of the 110th Bontoc
Foundation Day and 14th Am-among Festival with the theme “Sustaining Bontoc
Culture, Empowering Communities, Access to Global Opportunities.”

Comafay, co-chairperson of the folkdance and ballroom committee ureged the
public to watch contestants as they showcase their talent in dancing.
She said the
committee stopped acceptance of registration after extending it until Sept. 5.
Comafay
relayed that 24 contestants registered for folkdance under elementary, junior high
school, and senior and tertiary categories.
With the
number of participants, folkdance competition will start 9 a.m.
Folkdance is
open to all elementary, secondary and tertiary level of the different barangays
of Bontoc.
Sancers must
interpret any Philippine folkdance, contestants must wear appropriate costume,
participating schools must only have one entry and the composition of
performers shall be a minimum of five pairs or 10 dancers and a maximum of six
pairs or 12 dancers.
In ballroom,
Comafay said 22 contestants registered under elementary, junior high school and
senior and tertiary categories. Competitions will start 2 p.m. on Sept. 125.
She said participating
couple will be one male and one female, resident of Bontoc, should follow the
prescribed cut and decency and presentation must be composed of three Latin
dances (cha cha, rumba and jive) and three standard dances (waltz, tango, and swing).
Comafay said those
who won in last year’s competition may join in the competition, provided that
they have a separate partner.
The same as
last year, cash prizes will be provided to the winning participants in each
category, both of the Folkdance and Ballroom Competitions. Also, participatory
prizes will be given to those who will not make it to Top 3. -- Alpine L. Killa
