Gunmen in slay of ex-PNP officer in Ilocos unknown

STA MARIA, Ilocos Sur – Police said they are still trying to identify  suspects who shot dead a 61-year-old policeman here in broad daylight  afternoon of Oct. 22 along the Poblacion highway.

Police identified the victim as Reynaldo D. Castro, retired PNP officer and resident here of Barangay Baliw Laud.

Investigation conducted by the police disclosed the victim was sitting at the west bound lane of said provincial road when he was shot successively by unidentified suspects.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds on parts of his body and was rushed by his son Ryan Castro to Ilocos Sur District Hospital in Narvacan town but was pronounced dead by the attending physician.

The incident was immediately flashed to nearby PNP stations for the conduct of dragnet operation to arrest suspects.
