Hedcor recounts role as Aboitiz celebrates 100 years

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- As the Aboitiz Group celebrates a hundred years in the business, Hedcor found a chance to look back into its contributions to the group.

More than being the Aboitiz group’s first ever renewable energy venture in the power sector, Hedcor takes bigger pride at another contribution--its projects with its host communities.

Staying true to Aboitiz group’s shared promise of Advancing Business and Communities, Hedcor remains proactive in its collaborations with the community, totaling to P14.7-million worth of projects in 2019 alone.

This covers initiatives centered on education, health and livelihood that best fit the needs of Hedcor’s host communities in Benguet, Ilocos Sur, Davao, and Bukidnon.

Aside from turning over brand new infrastructure or equiptment, Hedcor also finds ways in making its projects both resourceful and sustainable. This includes the repurposing of container vans that were once used to haul plant facilities such as turbines during construction into daycare centers in Bukidnon. 

For projects relating to health, Hedcor opts to turnover medical equipment and provide training for Barangay Health Workers as this is a more sustainable impact compared to medical missions.

Hedcor makes sure that its projects capacitate its communities to be more skilled in various fields such as Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System (DRRM). Recently, Hedcor’s host community--the Municipality of La Trinidad,--has been recognized for its exemplary DRRM system. They bagged the National Gawad KALASAG (Kalamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) Award for the second consecutive time in the first- to third-class municipalities category.

Above all, Hedcor puts utmost priority towards education as the organization believes that it is the best driver of success. In its 42 years, Hedcor has produced scholars who graduated with latin honors or have passed the board--the likes of Judy Ann Lupinna who is the first ever civil engineer of Amilongan in the municipality of Alilem, Ilocos Sur. 

The communities’ local government units (LGUs) also receive generation shares from Hedcor pursuant to the Energy Regulation (ER) 1-94.

This means they are granted one centavo for every kilowatt-hour generated by Hedcor. Through this, infra projects such as P1.9-million farm-to-market roads in the Municipality of Bakun and the P10.7-million electrification project in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur are now being enjoyed by communities.

As the business grows to cater to the rising demands of clean energy, Hedcor makes sure that it leaves no one behind especially its host communities who have welcomed and kept its facilities safe from the day of construction up to present.
