Cop in La Union vice mayor’s slay yields

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La
Union -- A police officer charged in connection with the killing of Vice Mayor
Al-Fred Concepcion of Balaoan, La Union and wounding of his daughter Aleli, the
town mayor, in an ambush in 2018 surrendered on Monday.

Naval Cahigas turned himself in to Col. Frankie Candelario, intelligence unit
chief of the Ilocos police, Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Ilocos police
director said.
Cahigas has a pending
arrest warrant for two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.
Concepcion
and his daughter were on their way to the municipal hall when their vehicles
were shot.
Also killed
was the elder Concepcion’s aide Mike Ulep while Aleli’s companions were
wounded.
“I hope and
pray that Cahigas divulge what he knows about the ambush and reveal the
identity of his co-conspirators for his own peace of mind,” Aleli said.
She said a
reward of P10 million was put up for anyone who can provide details for the
arrest of the perpetrators, including the mastermind of the ambush.
