P13.9-M MJ uprooted in Kalinga; P2.4-M bricks seized in Bontoc

KALINGA and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera operatives destroy and burn marijuana worth P13.9 million at the mountainous area of Barangay Bugnay, Tinglayan, Kalinga on Sept. 19.


BONTOC, Mountain Province – Police found 17 abandoned marijuana bricks here in Barangay Samoki worth P2.04 million on Sept. 20.
    This, even as marijuana plants valued at P13.9 million were destroyed after authorities raided six plantations in the mountainous area of Barangay Bugnay, Tinglayan Kalinga on Sept. 19.
    In a report to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Arwin SA Pagkalinawan, Bontoc police said, acting from a tip, they found the abandoned marijuana bricks placed inside a box.
    No one was arrested but items were brought to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency office in Bontoc for disposition.
    In Tinglayan, Kalinga, marijuana plants valued at P13.9 million were destroyed after authorities raided six plantations in the mountainous area of Barangay Bugnay, on Sept. 19.
    Combined elements of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera implemented “Oplan Jolly Green”, and discovered six plantation sites in the area.
    Kalinga police director Col. Davy Limmong said a total of 68,800 fully grown marijuana plants with a Dangerous Drug Board value of P13.96 million planted in an area covering 4,000 square meters were uprooted and burned on site.
    PDEA regional director Gil Castro said the marijuana eradication, dubbed as KPPO Oplan 17 “Quebec Jolly Green”, was conducted as a continuous effort to clear drug-affected barangays in Kalinga.
    Castro said the successful marijuana eradication was a product of the relentless effort of the law enforcers in clearing marijuana infested areas in Kalinga.
    Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Cordillera police remained alert against illegal drugs.
    Last Sept. 11, PDEA agents nabbed a Land Transportation Office-Cordillera traffic enforcer in a buy-bust operation at Suello Village, Barangay Santo Tomas Proper in Baguio City.
    The suspect, who is listed as a high-value individual, yielded two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected as shabu.
    Last month, law enforcers concluded a three-day operation from Aug. 17 to 19 in Mount Chumanchil in Loccong, Tinglayan, Kalinga where they uprooted and burned some 404,300 fully grown marijuana plants worth P80 million in nine plantations. – With PNA reports
