Baguio Covid update: 2 deaths, 24 new cases

BAGUIO CITY – Two more fatalities related to Covid-19 were posted Dec. 29 bringing to 62 the city’s death toll or 1.63 percent of confirmed cases.
    The City Health Service Office also reported increase of recoveries to 55 or 91.47 percent from the total of 3,487 recoveries, while 24 new cases added to the total of 263 active cases, or 6.90 percent of the total of 3,812 confirmed cases as of Dec. 29.
    CHSO said a 77-year-old female was admitted on Nov. 18 at Pines City Doctor Hospital, and died on Dec. 16, due to COVID-19 critical acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), hyperglycemic crisis with sec encephalopathy, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus.
    The second fatality was a 61-year-old female admitted at the Baguio General Hospital on December 23, and died on December 29.
    From Dec.1 to 29, the city recorded a total of 798 cases, 710 recoveries and 21 deaths.
    City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Chief Dr. Donnabel Tubera Panes reminded the public to keep themselves warm, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and go for a better health seeking behavior as colder weather continued to prevail in the city, aside from ensuring strict compliance to the minimum health standards needed to protect oneself from the COVID-19.
    Panes reiterated the Department of Health (DOH) public advisory to avoid the three “Cs” against COVID-19 infections, which are crowded places, closed contact settings and confined or enclosed spaces in mass gatherings, such as parties and family reunions as well as shopping and other outdoor activities that are common during the yuletide season.
