Cagayan province logs 349 new Covid-19 cases

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Some 349 new Covid-19 cases were registered in Cagayan province on Sept. 26, local data showed.
    Most of these cases were recorded in this city, which added 63 infections that day.
    The other new cases were from the towns of Lasam, Alcala, Baggao, Pamplona, Solana, and Sta. Ana.
    This city also logged 11 new Covid-19 deaths that day while Solana and Sta. Ana each had two new deaths while the towns of Camalaniugan, Claveria, Lal-lo, and Sta. Teresita had one each.
    Tuguegarao still has the highest active infections in the province at 824 while Baggao and Aparri have 274 and 253 cases, respectively.
    Pamplona had 221 while Alcala has 214 active cases, local data showed.

BAGUIO CITY -- Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the city inoculated 140,550 individuals or about 50.85 percent of Baguio's population eligible for the vaccine.
    Magalong said district and satellite sites were utilized while the mobile vaccine team immunized elderly or persons with disability in far-flung or hard-to-reach areas.
    With the steady arrival of vaccines, the mayor is hopeful that the city can vaccinate 266,900 or 90 to 95 percent of the population should be fully immunized by the first week of December. Vaccination sites include the Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, SM Parking, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Market area, Irisan National High School, Divine Mercy, Irisan National High School, Baguio City National High School, University of the Cordilleras, City Health Services Office and other areas, in partnership with government agencies and private entities.

La Union’s capital city eyes ECQ for 2 weeks

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- Health authorities are eyeing to place La Union’s capital city of San Fernando under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) for two weeks beginning Oct. 1 after the Delta variant of Covid-19 was detected there.
    The imposition of ECQ, the most restrictive containment classification in the country, would allow the city to contain the spread of the virus, the city government said.
    Mayor Hermenegildo Gualberto confirmed the detection of the Delta variant case on Sept. 25.
    He had instructed the city’s Covid-19 technical working group to prepare all logistical requirements for the heightened lockdown restriction, including the provision of relief goods and quarantine passes.
    As of Sept. 25, the city had 1,063 active Covid-19 cases, according to city government data.
