Comments get viral: one insists Baguio in Ifugao

BAGUIO CITY — Citizens of the Cordillera are calling on the public to gain knowledge first on the geography of the region before planning to visit its tourist attractions and other areas.
    This comes after a thread of comments between a netizen and a resident of Banaue went viral on social media which sparked a debate on where the municipality of Banaue, Ifugao is located.
    Local officials earlier advised some roads leading to Banaue are closed due to the recent flash flood in the municipality caused by heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon.
    The netizen commenter asked why they closed the roads saying it will affect tourists who like to go to “Stone Kingdom.”
    A resident of the town corrected the said netizen explaining that the said attraction is far away from Banaue as it is actually in Baguio City.
    But the netizen insisted that while the “kingdom” is located in Baguio City and not Banaue, they are in the same province.
    The netizen said Baguio City and Banaue are both located in the province of Benguet.
    The resident commented that he is actually a resident of Banaue and as far as he know, they are part of Ifugao Province.
    Baguio City is a chartered city even though it is situated inside Benguet.

It was chartered as early as 1909.

Some netizens urged visitors to any part of the Cordillera Region to research first the geography as well as the history of the Cordillera.

Some even said it is easier to do the research now because of technology that makes needed information available on the internet.
