Bontoc folks get fish fingerlings from BFAR

BONTOC, Mountain Province - Thirty-five
fisherfolks of this capital town received tilapia fingerlings March 1 at the
municipal capitol grounds.
Administrative Officer IV Ross Kiat-ong of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist said the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources provided 40,000 tilapia fingerlings to the Bontoc local government which the latter distributed to recipients.
As its counterpart, the Bontoc LGU shouldered hauling of fingerlings from La Trinidad fish farm and its distribution to beneficiaries in Bontoc.
Kiat-ong added the fingerlings distribution aims to eradicate poverty in communities by strengthening livelihood activities of marginalized fisherfolks.
Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., thanked the BFAR for its assistance to fisherfolks in the locality and expressed hopes the tilapia fingerlings distribution will ensure sufficient supply of fish in the market for public consumption
He assured the recipients the Bontoc LGU will strengthen its partnership with the BFAR to support programs in marine and fishery sectors by developing resources to sustain aquaculture productivity and uplift the living standard of fisherfolks.
