Ilocos towns, PNP stations ‘drug-free’

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office here  Wednesday said this town and two other towns in the province are now drug-free.
    Ilocos Norte police director Col. Julius Suriben said this was due to efforts of local officials, Philippine National Police and barangay officials in making workplaces drug-free.
    Suriben said such declarations were necessary as first step in making communities drug-free.
     “As public servants, everyone needs to model the way and be trusted by the public as stipulated in Article 11,     Section 1 of the 1987 Constitution, Public Office is a Public Trust,” Suriben said.
    Marcos town Mayor Antonio Mariano expressed gratitude to the INPPO and PDEA for helping them in crafting their drug-free workplace policy.
    On the same day, the Banna and Pinili police stations were also declared as drug free workplaces.
    To date, 91 percent of PNP units and 26 percent of LGUs have been declared  drug-free.
