Bontoc folks given seeds for gardening

BONTOC, Mountain Province - Backyard-grown vegetables will soon be added as additional income for 20 families that received eggplant and pechay seedlings from the Bontoc local government through the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist on April 26.
    OMAg assistant department head Catherine Agcon said 179 eggplant seedlings and 40 packets of pechay seeds were given to parents of 20 malnourished children.
    It was sourced from the municipal agricultural program fund.
    This health and nutrition intervention of the Bontoc local government aims to promote backyard gardening which is cost-efficient and healthy.
    Tilapia starters, grower feeds and crates were turned over to fisher folks of barangays of this capital town.
    Administrative officer IV Ross Kiat-ong of the OMAg said a total of 35 sacks of feeds and 50 crates sourced out from gender and development program fund were distributed to the fisherfolks who received Tilapia fingerlings from the Bureau of Fisheries Aquatic Resources on March 1.
    Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong Jr., in message, assured the LGU’s full support to the agriculture and health sector.
The mayor said child malnutrition was a serious issue that affects many families in the community.
“It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every child has access to a healthy and balanced diet, and initiatives such as this one,” he added.
