LAOAG CITY – A barangay captain and his younger brother were shot and hacked to death and two other were critically wounded when two feuding families clashed night of May 29 at Sitio Namnama, Barangay Caoacan, this city, police said.

Investigators under chief of police Supt. Wilson Lopez reported that the victims, identified as Barangay Chairman Glicero Manuel, 61, and his brother Edison Manuel, 57, employee of city slaughterhouse, died on the spot.

The victim’s nephew identified as Jonathan Ramos, 31, was shot and wounded in the face.

A certain Rudy Retutal, a seaman on vacation, was also wounded. Both were confined in the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

Police found several empty shells of Cal. 45 and 9mm bullets at the crime scene. Initial report stated that Retutal, his son Rommel, brother Francisco and Kagawad Adriano Andres clashed with the group of the barangay captain due to an alleged family feud.

Policemen were also looking into the political angle, noting that the victims were supporters of reelected Laoag Mayor Michael Farinas, while the suspects were allies of defeated mayoralty bet retired police general Rowland Albano.
