Baguio City lawmaker allots P10M for student scholarship

BAGUIO CITY – Rep. Mauricio Domogan has allotted P10 million for this year from his Priority Development Assistance Fund for student recipients in the city.

“The younger generation must be accorded quality education so that they will not suffer the hardships that the older generation had gone through just to attain a higher degree of learning to be productive citizens of the country,” Domogan said.

To date, there are over 1,000 college and technical-vocational students who are availing of the Mauricio G. Domogan Educational Financial Assistance Program.

He said he was giving priority to the said program because he wanted the youth to learn and not to suffer the hardships that he and their parents have experienced in the past just to be able to finish college.

Domogan said education is still the best inheritance that children could get from their parents or benefactors because it could not be easily taken away from them and they can treasure it throughout their life.

The P10 million scholarship fund of the lawmaker has eaten up one-third of his P30 million remaining PDAF for this year since the P40 million was earlier released for vital priority infrastructure projects in the different barangays of the city.

However, Domogan assured beneficiaries of the MGDEFAP that he will continue to provide funding for the program until his term ends in 2010, thus, those enjoying the program must exert extra effort in their studies for their own good.

Among the soft infrastructure being funded by the congressman are the P1 million livelihood assistance and the P1 million medical assistance program for indigent patients at the Baguio General Hospital.

Rains benefit P’sinan farmers, fish growers

CALASIO, Pangasinan – The rains that poured down in the past few days benefited about 80 percent of farmers whose lands had dried up for many months.

This, as prices of bangus (milkfish) remain stable despite the heavy downpour in Dagupan City that left some barangays flooded the past days.

Mayor Roy Macanlalay told newsmen here although there are some barangays that remain underwater up to now, like Nalsian, Pogo, Lasip, Mancup, Beunlag and Talibew, rain waters had eased the worry of farmers.

In Dagupan City, Emma Molina, the city agriculturist, said prices of bangus remain at P77 to P78 per kilogram.

The increase of P2 per kilogram is very insignificant, she said.
