Woman mauled to death on field

SAN JUAN, Ilocos Sur – An old woman, who was a former barangay kagawad, was mauled and killed on Jan. 13 by unidentified men at a rice field in Barangay Muraya, San Juan, Ilocos Sur, it was reported.

The victim, Erlinda Balmoa, 68, reportedly went to her farm to gather string beans. She was later found dead in the farm by barangay residents.

Senior Insp. Benjie Louis Tremor, San Juan chief of police, said Balmoa was a barangay kagawad and resident of Barangay Muraya.

Investigation showed the victim suffered body contusion caused by the mauling.

Investigators found near the crime scene a broken wood which, they said, might have been used to hit the victim. -- Freddie Lazaro
