Medical mission set April in Bontoc

BONTOC, Mountain Province -- In the spirit of Lang-ay, surgical doctors will share their services for free in a medical mission at the Bontoc General Hospital here on April 4-6.

Provincial Health Officer Nenita Lizardo said Baguio-based doctors led by Dr. Jimmy Cabfit would check up or perform surgery on individuals suffering from illnesses but don’t have the money for it.

Lizardo said screening of probable beneficiaries to this charitable mission starts on March 1 at the Bontoc General Hospital.

Although local residents may be given preference, those from other areas could also be served. In last year’s medical mission, people from nearby provinces were also given medical attention but had to undergo screening process.

Gov. Maximo Dalog said medical supplies and medicines for the medical mission were already procured by the provincial government and will be given free to the patients.

In a related development the governor urged departments of the provincial government to sponsor a ward at the hospital to improve services and provide additional facilities to hospital patients.

As sponsor, an office could donate facilities that will make the stay of a person at a ward more wholesome.

An office could also beef up the janitorial services of the hospital by helping in maintaining cleanliness inside a sponsored ward. In a talk with the staff of his office, the employees agreed to sponsor one. – Angel Baybay
