An investigation by concerned agencies is needed on a “scam” involving the acquisition of prime lots at South Drive in Baguio City by the Benguet Electric Coop. is in order considering it is worth millions of pesos involving money of member consumers of the power firm. (See banner story in Front Page for more details.)

Top officials of Beneco who were involved in the deal, for transparency’s sake, should also shed light on the matter considering it is member consumers who are paying for their salaries. The deal exposed by Baguio City councilor Fred Bagbagen should be thoroughly probed so that if allegations of irregularities or anomalies are proven, proper charges should be filed against the culprits.

Concerned Beneco employes who have knowledge of other dubious deals involving Beneco officials should also expose such anomalies like reported irregularities in procurement of services and materials by the power company, also worth millions of pesos.

Beneco officials should also schedule an emergency meeting for all members and stakeholders to address these problems considering their urgency or more millions of pesos would go to waste. This would also give Beneco officials involved in alleged anomalies to clear their names if they are not guilty of the serious allegations against them.

Lastly, the emergency meeting should be held in Baguio or La Trinidad, Benguet to allow more stakeholders to attend. Beneco officials owe these to member consumers who provide their salaries and livelihood.
