Burial ritual results to drowning of man

SADANGA, Mountain Province – A burial ritual here resulted to the death of a man who went fishing along the Chico River with bereaved kin.

Search and rescue operations led by town police chief Insp. Peter Y. Angyoda are still ongoing here to find the body of Vicente Yossayos, 57, married and resident of Barangay Poblacion here who drowned at the river along Sitio Owatyen Barangay Poblacion on June 25 at about 1 p.m.

Police investigation disclosed the victim with relatives and town mates went to the river to catch fish for their supper as a ritual in the observance of the fifth day after burial of their relative.

The group with the victim, were diverting the flow of a small body of water of the river to drain it to catch the fishes when a large volume of water brought by continuous rainfall of tropical depression Falcon suddenly swept away the victim into rampaging waters while his companions scampered to safety.

Meanwhile, in Kibungan, Benguet, search operations are still being conducted to find a resident who was swept away by rampaging water of the Amburayan River on June 25.


The missing young man was identified as Joni Lagadeo, single, and resident of Balbalnag, Badeo here.

The missing man’s family was still keeping hope Lagadeo was still alive.
