LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — This province was placed Wednesday under a state of calamity as it reels off the devastating effects of massive flooding caused by monsoon rains and tropical storm “Egay.”
Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr. called the special session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for the declaration of a state of calamity, following a report by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council that at least 180 barangays in 20 towns and three cities were inundated for days.
Board Member Jeremy Rosario said the declaration was necessary since barangays, particularly those in the western side of Pangasinan, were still under water until last Wednesday. -- LBI
