TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- “Kalinga has enough buffer rice stock to supply the province for 222 days.

“With or without calamities, our warehouse has adequate supply of the staple food,” said National Food Authority provincial manager Henry Tristeza. “Our daily release is 150 bags and the stock can run for seven months.”

He said depletion of stocks will not happen since November and December are harvest months in the province. “We can even share our supply to Metro Manila and other typhoon-stricken areas if the situation obliges us to do so.”

He said typhoons Pedring and Quielhad no significant impact on the supply in the province.

“Sixth percent of Region 2’s standing crops was affected and maybe they will be our immediate attention if our assessment calls us to help them provide augmentation supply,” Tristeza said.

He added their offices maintain distribution to retailers inside and outside the market. “We have 20,000 bags local rice and 15,000 imported of good quality and certified by the Bureau of Food and Drugs Administration.

The NFA is also offering the public its drying facilities for farmers whose produce have not been dried or have problems for drying.

Tristeza said they have biomass and mechanical dryers , and priority is given to their customers.
