TAGUDIN, Ilocos Sur- For fear of being lynched, a woman suspected robber jumped into the deep water to elude arrest but drowned Wednesday here in Barangay Dacutan.

Police reports said the suspected robber identified as Aurora Pagaduan of Barangay Las-ud, Tagudin, probably did not want to be cornered by the angry mob right after robbing a fellow woman and preferred to jump into the river which happened to be deep.

According to police reports, the victim robbed Lilia Mina of her jewelries when the victim screamed for help, getting the attention of the public.

Fearing that she would be cornered, the suspect suddenly dove into the deep river even if she apparently did not know how to swim.

Lawmen recovered the jewelry of the robbery victim from the pocket of the drowned robber.

Chief Supt. Franklyn Bucayu, Region 1 police director, ordered a probe on the incident.
