TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- Kalinga Schools Division superintendent Norma Brilliantes said a Department of Education order prohibits collection of graduation fees thus school officials and teachers in the province should strictly abide by it.

Brilliantes, however, said under the order, Parents Teachers Association can decide how to conduct graduation ceremonies and if it entails some funds, the PTA can raise the money but this should not be collected from students.

She warned school officials and teachers not to get involved in money-raising activities.

It should purely be the concern of the parents, she said.

In instances where a graduating batch wishes to leave a project or any sort of legacy to the alma mater, the project should be presented before the PTA which makes the decisions, Brilliantes said.

The DepEd order was handed down to stop suspicion that school officials and teachers are making money from graduating classes.
