BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan Wednesday, appealed to
residents here to help ease traffic in highly congested areas of the city by
cooperating with authorities.
This, as heavy traffic greeted commuters last week during the
opening of classes in the Central Business district and alternate routes of the
city.
Domogan said residents who have private vehicles should not park
in barangay roads especially during rush hour to avoid clogging.
“Parked vehicles are aggravating the traffic we are already
experiencing,” he said citing barangay roads being used as private parking areas.
Domogan said, he directed the traffic management branch of the
Baguio City Police office to strictly enforce the implementation of the ‘no
parking’ ordinance in city streets and barangay roads.
‘I have already talked with the barangay officials to help inform
their constituents regarding the situation, I hope they cooperate’, he said.
“I also appeal to school service vehicles and private cars not to
park in junctions and city streets while waiting for their wards,”Domogan said.
Major roads undergoing repair and rehabilitation has also
contributed to the traffic experienced by motorists and commuters.
Asked for the possibility of widening the city’s major roads,
Domogan said, it is possible if it is part of the road right of way’.
“We all know that the city was planned to accommodate 25,000
thousand people only,” he said.
At present, the city’s population is around 400,000 thousand
excluding students who comprise a major sector of the city's population during
day time.
